While the Augsburger Domsingknaben in the hands of the director of music Reinhard Kammler maintain a high standard of musica sacra in the dome of Augsburg, they have also played a professional part in the international music business for years. They have worked with world stars such as Sir Colin Davis, Fabio Luisi, Jeffrey Tate, Thomas Hengelbrock, Mstislav Rostropowitsch, Sir Neville Marriner, Kent Nagano, Mariss Jansons, Daniel Harding, Manfred Honeck, Bernard Haitink and Valery Gergiev. The chamber choir of the Augsburger Domsingknaben and their boy soloists have performed at music festivals such as the Schwetzinger Festspiele, Europäische Festwochen Passau or the Baltic Sea Festival Stockholm, and at distinguished opera houses such as the Bayerische Staatsoper München, Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf and Opéra national du Rhin Strasbourg, continually taking part in productions and concert projects of the Bayerische Rundfunk in the Philharmonie am Gasteig, Prinzregententheater or Herkulessal of the Residenz.
The choir has taken concert tours throughout Germany, to many European countries and overseas, such as Japan, Canada, Ecuador and South Africa. The Augsburger Domsingknaben have sung for the federal president Joachim Gauck at Schloss Bellevue as well as for the Pope in the Vatican. In 2014, they were invited to the US for a series of concerts in San Francisco and Santa Rosa, and in 2016, the choir followed an invitation of the State Poly Agency to perform all over China for four weeks. In February 2019 the Augsburger Domsingknaben participated in a concert of Mahler’s 8th Symphony »Symphony of a Thousand« at the Philharmonie de Paris with the Munich Philharmonics conducted by Valery Gergiev. In May 2019 they performed Brittens »War Requiem« together with the Orchestre de Paris and Daniel Harding in Munich and Linz/Austria.
Numerous CDs of the Augsburger Domsingknaben have been published with renowned labels such as »harmonia mundi«, EMI, »ars musici« and Deutsche Grammophon. Together with Bernard Haitink and the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks the Augsburger Domsingknaben have won the BBC Music magazine’s »Recording of the Year« for their performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 in 2018. The Augsburger Domsingknaben are also proud to be part of the Deutsche Grammophon project Bach333 released worldwide in October 2018. It is the largest and most complete box set ever devoted to the work of Johann Sebastian Bach.
Reinhard Kammler studied at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Munich. He founded the Augsburger Domsingknaben early on during his studies and received a scholarship from the Deutscher Musikrat. After many years of duty as cathedral organist he was appointed Domkapellmeister of Augsburg. While he continues to cultivate a high standard of musica sacra at the Augsburg cathedral, Kammler performs with his Augsburger Domsingknaben inside and outside of Germany and works with the Bayerische Rundfunk, numerous opera houses, orchestras and first-rate conductors. He has had successful artistic cooperations with recording labels »harmonia mundi« and »ars musici« for decades. The renowned label »Deutsche Grammophon« has completed several CD productions with him. Celebrating the 333th anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach in 2018, Reinhard Kammler and the Augsburger Domsingknaben are part of the The new complete edition by Deutsche Grammophon and Bach Archiv Leipzig. Kammler is continually being invited as a jury member for various competitions. He has been awarded several honours for founding the Augsburger Domsingknaben and for his service to the cultivation of the musica sacra, e.g. the Päpstlicher Silvesterorden and the Bundesverdienstkreuz. Together with Augsburger Domsingknaben Kammler was awarded the »Bayerischer Poetentaler« and the Kulturpreis der Bayerischen Volksstiftung.
